About The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing land survey activities in the Greater St. Louis/Edwardsville geographic area.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works on utility and private land surveying in the Greater St. Louis/Edwardsville area
  • Helps establish the land survey function by developing and nurturing relationships with current and potential clients, educating the community on the services available, and supporting the Utility team
  • Continually learns about electrical and gas power systems, construction, and project work; gains exposure to job sites and project management
  • Conducts or oversees field work including topographic and boundary surveys related to the construction of gas and/or electrical power systems
  • Researches land boundaries and other survey data at Courthouses and in public records to assist in identifying legal boundaries
  • Creates and organizes field notes
  • Writes land legal descriptions and develops survey exhibits
  • Comprehends land survey details and demonstrates knowledge of construction work and the feasibility of construction projects
  • Performs construction design, and occasional Right of Way work
  • Complies with all safety and regulatory requirements
    • Fosters a safe, productive job site environment and quality work products
    • Encourages an attitude of safety and quality in others
    • Coaches less experienced senior technicians who may start to do something in an unsafe way
    • Demonstrates a concern for everyone's safety
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars, reading professional publications, networking, and participating in professional associations
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, geography, or construction management preferred
    • Survey courses required
    • Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of education
  • 3+ years experience conducting topographic and boundary surveys under the direction of a PLS
  • OSHA 10 or higher preferred, but not required
  • SIT or PLS preferred, but not required
  • Experience drawing exhibits
  • Knowledge/experience researching and developing legal descriptions of land
  • Total Station, GPS, Micro Station, and AutoCAD experience
  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a vehicle; clean driving record

Physical Requirements of the Role:

  • Ability to drive to job sites and work in outdoor environments with exposure to weather including high and low temperature extremes
  • Stand for prolonged periods, stoop, climb, squat and/or walk to perform necessary job functions
  • Lift 10-30 pounds routinely
